The Internet Service Provider's Association of Nepal (ISPAN) and its member ISPs welcome the introduction of Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology by Nepal Telecom. We strongly believe this will contribute to broadband penetration and development of ICT in Nepal.Based on international practice and the experience in other countries, we also strongly believe that such an important technology should not be monopolized by Nepal Telecom. Private ISPs must be allowed to use ADSL technology as well to serve Internet customers. Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), the telecommunications regulator, agrees with our stance. In a landmark decision, NTA has instructed Nepal Telecom to provide ADSL access to private ISPs and their customers as well. That is, private ISPs will also be able to provide Internet connectivity to their customers using ADSL line from Nepal Telecom, very similar to the way private ISPs provide dial-up Internet connectivity using Nepal Telecom's telephone line. NTA has also instructed Nepal Telecom and private ISPs to work out pricing and other technicalities within 30 days. We are presently in negotiations with Nepal Telecom and will be able to provide ADSL service very soon. We request our valued customers to remain patient and continue to support us.
